PVC Cleaning & Restoration

pvc-lifestyle-image-1.jpg

PVC cleaning and restoration is a two-part maintenance process for plastic building materials (commonly uPVC windows, doors, fascias, and cladding) aimed at safely removing surface grime and reviving materials that are discoloured or weathered by age and UV exposure.

Cleaning

Cleaning focuses on removing everyday dirt, grime, moss, algae, and general air pollutants to maintain the surface's appearance and integrity.

Process

This stage uses mild, non-abrasive cleaners, such as warm water with mild dish soap or a dedicated uPVC cleaner, applied with a soft cloth or sponge. The key is gentle agitation followed by a thorough rinse with clean water to prevent streaking.

Caution

Harsh chemicals like bleach, solvent-based cleaners, or abrasive pads must be avoided, as they can permanently scratch, dull, or discolour the PVC surface.  manual drying with a squeegee or cloth.

Restoration

Restoration is a more intensive treatment required when the PVC has become severely weathered, tired, or yellowed due to prolonged UV exposure and age.

Specialised Cleaning

Professional-grade uPVC restorers, often a fine, non-scratch abrasive paste or a solvent cleaner, are used to break down the top layer of damaged or stained material.

Application and Dwell

The restorer is gently applied with a soft cloth and allowed a short dwell time to work on the damaged surface layer.

Neutralise and Rinse

The area is thoroughly rinsed with clean water to stop the chemical process.

Protection

Once dry, a protective polish or wax can be applied to act as a barrier against future UV damage and dirt, extending the lifespan of the material and keeping it clean for longer.

In essence, gentle, regular cleaning maintains new PVC, while a targeted restoration process can effectively revive older, sun-damaged surfaces, ensuring the longevity and aesthetic appeal of the exterior plastics.
