Soft Washing

Softwashing is a safe, low-pressure exterior cleaning method that uses specialised chemical solutions to remove organic growth (like algae, moss, mildew, and bacteria), dirt, and grime from delicate surfaces without causing damage. Unlike pressure washing, which relies on the force of high-pressure water, softwashing relies on the cleaning agents to break down contaminants at a molecular level.
Process
Preparation
The surrounding area, including plants and electrical components, is pre-wetted or protected to prevent chemical exposure.
Solution Application
Chemicals are applied using a low-pressure pump and hose system. The pressure is often less than a garden hose, usually under 500 PSI.
Dwell Time
The solution is left on the surface for a specific "dwell time" (usually 10 to 60 minutes, depending on the severity of the growth) to effectively kill the organic matter and its spores down to the root.
Key Advantages
Softwashing is a safer and more effective alternative to traditional pressure washing for many surfaces as it is a versatile, science-based approach that not only cleans but also sanitises exterior surfaces, restoring their appearance and extending their lifespan.
Surface Safety
The low pressure makes it ideal for delicate materials that would be damaged by high pressure, such as roof shingles, render, stucco, wood cladding, siding, and painted surfaces.
Longer Lasting Results
By killing the spores and root systems of organic growth (rather than just blasting away the surface layer), softwashing prevents rapid re-growth, meaning surfaces stay cleaner for significantly longer.
Eco-Friendly
The process uses less water than pressure washing and the solutions used are often biodegradable and break down rapidly upon contact with soil, minimising environmental impact when used correctly.
Deep Cleaning
The chemical action provides a deep clean that reaches into porous surfaces where high-pressure water might only clean the surface.
